Manhattan Melodrama
Blackie (Clark Gable) i Jim (William Powell) wychowali się w dzielnicy East Side w Nowym Yorku, słynnej z biedy, imigrantów i przestępczości. Blackie wyrósł na kanciarza i gangstera. Jim skończył prawo i został prokuratorem generalnym. Obu łączy miłość do Eleanor (Myrna Loy). Po tym jak zastrzelony zostaje hazardzista Manny Arnold, podejrzenia padają na Blackiego. Z powodu braku dowodów sprawa utyka w martwym punkcie. Wkrótce potem Jim zaczyna ubiegać się o stanowisko gubernatora NY. Jego asystent zaczyna go szantażować, zarzucając mu wyciszenie morderstwa Mannyego oraz powiązania ze światem przestępczym.
